YouTube: videos, Shorts and livestreams
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts → YouTube
Every 3 minutes SlakBot checks your YouTube channel for a new video and posts it in your Discord channel, with thumbnail, title, views and likes. When your channel goes live you get a separate live alert, with its own role and text if you want. Scheduled streams and premieres are only announced once they are actually live. Whatever was already on your channel when you set this up is not announced.
Steps
- Paste your channel link, @handle or channel ID under YouTube channel and click Check channel. You'll see which channel the bot found.
- Under Discord channel, pick where the alert goes, and pick the Role that gets pinged for a new video (old panel: Ping Role).
- Want a different role or text for livestreams? Fill in Role that gets a ping when you go live and The message when you go live (old panel: Live ping role and Live message). If you leave them empty, the bot uses the video role and a default live text.
- If you like, change The message for a new video using {role}, {channel}, {title} and {url}, and pick a Color of the message. The bot always adds the role, even if you leave out {role}.
- Click Save. Then use Send a test message (old panel: Test message) to check that it works: the bot posts your newest video in the channel and really pings the role.
- Skip shorts (old panel: Skip YouTube Shorts) is ON by default, so Shorts are not announced. Turn it off if you do want them. The setting applies to every YouTube channel you follow on the server.
- The bot doesn't announce videos older than 48 hours.
- The bot only announces a stream as a livestream when YouTube confirms it's live. If that fails, for example during a YouTube outage, the stream comes through as a regular video alert.
- After a live alert, the same server gets no second live alert for 5 hours. That also applies when your stream drops and restarts, or when another YouTube channel you follow goes live.
- Let Discord play the video itself (old panel: Discord native player) is OFF by default. When it's on, the alert is a plain message with the link and Discord shows its own player. Otherwise, under Bot & content → Appearance → YouTube alert you choose between Card (an image) and Embed (the default). Plain text also gives an embed for YouTube.
- In the alert channel the bot needs View channel, Send messages, Embed links and Attach files (the thumbnail or card is sent as a file). If the bot isn't allowed to post there, it stops YouTube alerts on this server until you fix it.
YouTube: subscriber milestones
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts → YouTube → Announce subscriber milestones (old panel: Milestone notifications)
Every hour SlakBot checks the subscriber count of each YouTube channel you follow. When you pass a milestone, it posts a celebration in the Discord channel where that YouTube channel's alerts go, pinging the same role as for a new video. The milestones are 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500, 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, 50,000 and 100,000 subscribers.
Steps
- First set up the YouTube alert (YouTube channel and Discord channel). Milestones go to the same Discord channel.
- Leave Announce subscriber milestones on, or turn it off and click Save.
- ON by default. The switch applies to all YouTube channels on the server together.
- If you connect a channel that's already past a milestone, the bot doesn't celebrate that one afterwards. Only the next milestone counts.
- If you pass several milestones within one hour, you get one message for the highest.
- If your subscriber count is hidden on YouTube, there are no milestones. Above 100,000 subscribers there are no further milestones.
Follow more channels (YouTube and TikTok LIVE)
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts → YouTube or TikTok LIVE → Follow more channels (new panel only)
In the new panel you can follow up to three YouTube channels per server, and up to three TikTok accounts for live alerts. Each one gets its own Discord channel and its own role. The first one in the list is the channel at the top of the page: change it in one place and it changes in the other too.
Steps
- Open Follow more channels.
- Enter the Name of the YouTube channel (or Name of the TikTok account). For YouTube this can also be the link or your @handle: the bot looks up the channel itself.
- Under Alerts from this channel in, pick the Discord channel and, if you want, the Role that gets pinged for this.
- Click Add channel. It is saved straight away and appears in the Channels you follow list.
- You can follow at most three at a time, including the first one. If you remove the first one, the next one moves up.
- A followed channel without a Discord channel does nothing. The list then shows a dash under Alerts in.
- If the bot can't find a YouTube channel, it isn't added.
- Skip shorts, the live role, the live message, the player setting, the milestones switch and the Appearance choice apply to all YouTube channels together. Your own video text and color belong to the first channel; extra channels get the standard alert.
- For TikTok LIVE, the switch at the top only applies to the first account. To stop an extra account, remove it from the list.
- TikTok Videos and Kick LIVE follow only one account per server.
TikTok Videos
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts → TikTok Videos
Every 4 minutes SlakBot checks whether you've posted a new TikTok and posts it in Discord with your caption, the cover image and a Watch video button. TikTok has no official connection for this, so the bot reads your public TikTok page. Whatever was already there when you set it up is not announced.
Steps
- Under Your TikTok name (old panel: TikTok Username), enter the name that follows the @ on your profile, not your display name. Pasting a link to your profile works too.
- Pick the Discord channel and, if you want, the Role to notify (old panel: Ping role).
- Want your own text? Fill in The message (old panel: Alert message) using {role}, {username}, {title} and {url}. Include {role}, otherwise the role isn't pinged. If you leave it empty, you get the default text with the ping.
- Click Save. Send a test message (old panel: Test message) then posts your newest TikTok in the channel, with the role ping but without your own text.
- There's no on/off switch: a name plus a channel means it's on. To stop only the video alerts, remove the Discord channel and keep the name. TikTok LIVE uses the same name.
- The bot announces at most one video per check, the newest. If you post two within a few minutes, only the last one is announced.
- TikTok doesn't give the bot views or likes, so they're not in the alert.
- A name with invalid characters isn't saved. Letters, digits, a dot and an underscore are allowed (2 to 24 characters). Don't paste a share link to a single video (vm.tiktok.com).
- Permissions in the alert channel: View channel, Send messages and Embed links.
TikTok LIVE
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts → TikTok LIVE
Every minute SlakBot checks whether you're live on TikTok. If you are, it posts one message with your stream title, cover, profile picture and viewer count. The bot updates that viewer count every minute in the same message. When your stream ends, the message changes to 'stream has ended'.
Steps
- Turn on Send a notification when you go live on TikTok (old panel: Live alerts enabled).
- Enter Your TikTok name. This is the same name as on TikTok Videos: change it here and it changes there too.
- Under Where the alert goes (old panel: Discord channel), pick the Discord channel and, if you want, the Role to notify.
- Click Save and try again now (old panel: Save).
- OFF by default.
- The text of the live alert is fixed and can't be changed. There's no test button either.
- The bot only marks the alert as ended after two checks in a row without a stream, so a minute or two after you stop.
- Permissions in the alert channel: View channel, Send messages and Embed links. If one is missing, the bot skips the alert until it's fixed.
- Here too the bot reads your public TikTok page. If it can't fetch your account for six hours, it stops and the panel shows this.
Kick LIVE
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts → Kick LIVE
Every minute SlakBot checks whether your Kick channel is live. If it is, it posts one message in Discord with title, category, viewer count and thumbnail. The viewer count is updated in the same message, and after your stream the message changes to 'is offline'. On Kick the bot only does this live alert: no chatbot, watch time, raids, clips, subscriber roles or coins.
Steps
- Under Your Kick channel (old panel: Kick channel (slug)), enter the part after kick.com/. Pasting a full kick.com link works too.
- Under Where the alert goes (old panel: Discord channel), pick the Discord channel and, if you want, the Role to notify.
- Want your own text? Use {role}, {username}, {title} and {url}; you type them in yourself here. Include {role}, otherwise the role isn't pinged. If you leave the field empty, you get the default text with the ping and the link.
- Turn on Send an alert when you go live on Kick (old panel: Live notification enabled) and click Save.
- OFF by default. You can only turn it on once both the Kick channel and the Discord channel are filled in. Otherwise nothing is saved.
- A Kick channel name has 2 to 25 characters: letters, digits, _ and -. Capitals become lowercase.
- One Kick channel per server. There's no test button.
- Permissions in the alert channel: View channel, Send messages and Embed links.
When an alert doesn't arrive
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts → that platform's page
Often it's SlakBot's permissions in the alert channel, or a name the bot can't find (anymore). When you pick a channel, the panel shows which permissions the bot is missing there. If fetching from YouTube or TikTok fails for six hours, or the bot isn't allowed to post in your YouTube alert channel, it stops and the page shows what went wrong. After that it tries again by itself once every six hours.
Steps
- Check whether the panel lists missing permissions for the chosen Discord channel. Give the SlakBot role View channel, Send messages, Embed links and (for YouTube) Attach files there.
- Check the name or channel (for YouTube, use Check channel). If you changed something, click Save.
- Is the error message still there after that, or did you only change the permissions in Discord? Then click Try again in the error message. The bot tries again on its next check.
- A video or TikTok that came out while the bot was stopped isn't announced afterwards if it's older than 48 hours (YouTube), or if a newer one has appeared since (TikTok).
- An error message on the page only appears for fetching problems (YouTube, TikTok) or for posting in your YouTube alert channel. If the bot lacks permissions in a TikTok or Kick alert channel, or something goes wrong with Kick, you only see the warning at the chosen channel. Check the permissions there yourself.
Who gets pinged
Where to find it: Panel → Socials & alerts (role per alert) and Community & members → Role menus
Each alert pings only the role you pick in the panel. If you pick no role, the alert comes without a ping. Want members to choose for themselves whether they get pinged? Create a separate role that they can take or drop through a role menu.
Steps
- Create a separate role for alerts in Discord (for example @Videos or @Live) and pick it in the panel as the role to notify.
- Under Community & members → Role menus, add a button for that role. A member who clicks it gets the role, and loses it when they click again.
- Is the role not actually pinged? In Discord, turn on Allow anyone to @mention this role for that role, or give SlakBot the Mention @everyone, @here, and All Roles permission.
- For YouTube the bot always puts the role in front of your text. For TikTok Videos and Kick only if your own text contains {role}.
- A test message really pings the role too.
