Channels & Roles
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Moderation → Channels & Roles card
The Mod-log channel is where SlakBot reports what it does itself: mutes by Anti-Spam, /unwarn, /unban, /track and approved unban requests. Anti-Scam and Anti-Raid report here too if you don't give them their own channel. The Message log channel shows deleted and edited messages, with the old and the new text. Members with the Moderator role can see, claim and close new tickets.
Steps
- Create a private channel for your team in Discord, for example #mod-log.
- Pick that channel under Mod-log channel.
- Optionally pick a second channel under Message log channel.
- Pick your moderators' role under Moderator role.
- Click 💾 Save all moderation settings at the bottom.
- What you do with /ban, /kick, /mute or /warn does not go to the mod log. You find it under Activity, Punishment history or Warnings, and in Discord's audit log.
- The Message log skips messages from bots, messages without text, and messages wiped in one go with /clear. SlakBot sometimes can't show older messages.
- The Moderator role gives no command permissions. Who can use /ban, /kick or /warn is set in Discord with the role's permissions.
- Who can open this panel is also set in Discord: the owner and anyone with the Manage Server permission.
Forbidden words and Auto-mod
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Moderation → Forbidden Words and Auto-mod cards
These filters delete messages with a forbidden word, too many capital letters, a link or a Discord invite. A short notice then appears in the channel and disappears after 5 seconds; the member gets no warning point for it. Anti-Spam steps in as soon as someone sends the set number of messages within 5 seconds (5 by default), or the same photo 5 times within a minute. The last message is then deleted and the member gets a 10-minute timeout, with a notice in the channel and in your mod log.
Steps
- Type a word under Forbidden words and click ➕ Add. Do this for each word.
- Want a channel where people can talk freely, for example #mental-health? Add it under Excluded channels.
- Under Auto-mod, switch on the filters you want: Anti-Spam, Anti-CAPS, Anti-Links and Anti-Invites.
- Using Anti-Links? Fill in the sites that are allowed under Whitelist domains (comma), such as youtube.com, twitch.tv.
- Click 💾 Save all moderation settings.
- All filters are off by default.
- Words are also found inside other words: 'ass' also blocks 'class'. So choose your words carefully.
- Anti-Links only sees links that start with http:// or https://. With an empty whitelist it blocks all of those links, including YouTube, Twitch and GIFs from Discord's GIF button (they come from tenor.com).
- Excluded channels here only apply to forbidden words. Anti-Scam and the AI Moderator each have their own list.
- Anti-CAPS only checks messages with at least the set number of letters (10 by default) and steps in at more than 70% capitals. For Anti-Spam, a message with several attachments counts as two messages.
- SlakBot needs the Manage Messages permission to delete, and Timeout Members for the spam mute.
Commands
/addword word:<word>
Adds a word to the Forbidden words list (Manage Messages permission).
/removeword word:<word>
Removes a word from the list (Manage Messages permission).
/filterlist
Shows all forbidden words (Manage Messages permission).
Warnings and Warn Actions
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Moderation → Warn Actions card, and the Warnings page
With /warn a moderator gives a member a warning with a reason. SlakBot sends the member a private message about it, if that member accepts private messages. Under Warn Actions you set after how many warnings SlakBot automatically mutes or bans someone: by default a 60-minute mute after 3 warnings and a ban after 5. The Warnings page shows each member's warnings, with the date, reason and who gave them.
Steps
- Open the Moderation page and go to the Warn Actions card.
- Fill in Auto-mute after X warns, Auto-ban after X warns and Mute duration (minutes).
- Click 💾 Save all moderation settings.
- Later, check the Warnings page to see who has how many warnings.
- Warn Actions work straight away, even if you never filled anything in here. Don't want an automatic mute or ban? Then enter a high number, for example 100. A 0 does not switch it off.
- Warnings don't expire. They add up until you remove them with /unwarn or /clearwarns. /unban and an approved unban request also clear them.
- The automatic mute or ban only happens at the moment someone gets a /warn. Warnings from the AI Moderator do count toward the total.
- For the automatic mute and ban, SlakBot needs the Timeout Members and Ban Members permissions.
- The Warnings page is view-only (the latest 300 for your server). You remove warnings in Discord with the commands below.
Commands
/warn user:<member> reason:<text>
Gives a warning and checks the Warn Actions (Manage Messages permission).
/unwarn user:<member> option:Last warn | All warns reason:<text>
Removes the last warning or all of them. This goes to the mod log (Manage Messages permission).
/clearwarns user:<member>
Clears all of a member's warnings (Manage Messages permission).
/warnings member:<member>
Shows a member's warnings, visible only to you (Timeout Members permission).
Anti-Scam
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Anti-Scam
Anti-Scam looks for scams in messages. It recognises known phishing sites and fake addresses that look like real ones, such as 'disccord'. Typical scam texts with an unknown link stand out too, and with OCR it reads the text in images, such as fake MrBeast giveaways. A scam SlakBot catches on one server is then recognised on every server where Anti-Scam is on. The message is always deleted; you choose what happens to the sender.
Steps
- Switch on Anti-Scam enabled.
- Under Action on detection, choose what happens to the sender. The default is Delete + warn (recommended).
- Under 📋 Logging, pick an Anti-Scam log channel. If you leave it empty, SlakBot uses the Mod-log channel.
- Optionally add addresses to 🚫 Custom Domain Blacklist (always block) or ✅ Custom Trusted Domains (never block).
- Click 💾 Save at the bottom. Then try out a text in the 🧪 Test scam detection card with the 🧪 Test detection button.
- Anti-Scam is off by default. Scan images with OCR is on by default, but only works when Anti-Scam itself is on. Images larger than 5 MB are skipped.
- 'Warn' here means a notice in the channel that disappears after 10 seconds. The member gets no warning point.
- Stricter for accounts younger than (days), 7 by default: a new account gets one step heavier. Delete only then becomes warn, and warn becomes mute. A ban only happens if you choose Delete + ban yourself.
- An address on your own blacklist only blocks exactly that address. Add subdomains, such as login.example.com, separately.
- No log channel and no mod log? SlakBot still deletes scams, but nobody is told about it.
- Permissions: Manage Messages to delete, Timeout Members to mute and Ban Members to ban.
- No filter catches everything. See Anti-Scam as an extra safety net, not a guarantee. With 📊 Send weekly report you send an overview of the past 7 days to your log channel.
Anti-Raid (join wave)
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Anti-Scam → 🌊 Anti-Raid (join wave) card
When many new members suddenly join (by default 8 within 10 seconds), raid mode switches on for 2 minutes. SlakBot sends an alert and by default gives the whole wave a 10-minute timeout; you can also choose kick or alert only. Anyone who joins during those 2 minutes only gets the action if their account is less than 14 days old.
Steps
- Switch on Anti-Raid enabled.
- Set Threshold (joins) and Within (seconds).
- Under Action on new members, choose Alert only, Timeout (10 min) or Kick. The default is Timeout (10 min).
- Pick an Alert channel, or leave it empty to use the Mod-log channel.
- Click 💾 Save in this card and use 🧪 Test raid alert to check that the alert arrives.
- Anti-Raid is off by default.
- If you choose Alert only and there's no alert channel or mod log, Anti-Raid does nothing at all.
- If SlakBot can't kick someone, it gives a timeout instead. For that it needs the Kick Members or Timeout Members permission.
- A busy stream or a new video can also bring many new members. So don't set the threshold too low.
AI Moderator
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → AI Moderator
The AI Moderator reads messages of three words or more, in Dutch and English, and looks for profanity, hateful language and threats. This happens at SlakBot itself: messages are not sent to an outside AI service. For a serious case it deletes the message and gives a warning. For a milder case the message stays and the member only gets a warning.
Steps
- Switch on Enable AI Moderator.
- Choose the Sensitivity: Mild, Normal (recommended) or Strict.
- Optionally pick a Log channel, where your team sees every action.
- Add channels where the AI shouldn't watch to 🚪 Excluded channels.
- Click 💾 Save.
- The AI Moderator is off by default. Auto-delete and Auto-warn are on by default.
- Auto-warn gives a real warning that counts under Warnings. A notice appears in the channel and disappears after 10 seconds.
- A computer makes mistakes. Sarcasm, jokes between friends or quotes can be flagged wrongly. So check the Log channel or Activity now and then.
- It skips messages from members with the Manage Messages permission.
Commands
/aimod status | on | off
Check the AI Moderator's status, or switch it on or off (Manage Server permission).
Captcha gate
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Captcha gate
When a new member joins, they get a role for unverified members and only see the verification channel. There they click a button, read a code from an image and type it in. They then get the role for verified members and can see the rest of the server. Existing members don't need to do anything.
Steps
- In Discord, go to Server Settings → Roles. Give SlakBot's role the Manage Roles and Manage Channels permissions, and drag that role to the top.
- In the panel, click 🪄 Auto-setup. SlakBot creates the roles and a verification channel, locks the rest of the server, posts the panel and switches the captcha on straight away.
- Use a second account to check that a new member really only sees the verification channel.
- Optionally change Code length (4-8), Max attempts (1-5) and On too many failed attempts, then click 💾 Save.
- Want to keep a channel public, like the rules? In that channel, turn View Channel back on for the unverified role.
- The captcha is off by default.
- The role alone stops nobody: it only works once the channels are locked. Adding new categories later? Click 🪄 Auto-setup again.
- With the captcha on, SlakBot no longer gives the Auto-role from the Welcome page. Let the verified role do that job.
- The code in the image expires after 5 minutes. Under On too many failed attempts, Try again is the mildest choice and Kick from the server the strictest.
User lookup
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → User lookup
Look up a member by name, nickname or Discord ID. You then see in one overview when the account was created, when the member joined, their roles, and whether they are banned or muted. Their warnings, the actions from Punishment history and unban requests are shown too. This page is view-only; you can't punish from here.
Steps
- Type at least 2 characters of a name, or paste an ID.
- Pick a member from the suggestions, or click 🔍 Search.
- Members who left the server or were banned can only be found by their ID.
Punishment history
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Punishment history
A searchable list of mutes via /mute and handled unban requests, both approved and denied. You can filter by type and by period. You see the latest 100.
Steps
- Type a name, reason or moderator in the search box.
- Click a filter, for example 🔇 Mutes or This week.
- Bans, kicks and warnings via /ban, /kick and /warn are not listed here. You find them under Activity and Warnings. As a result the 🔨 Bans, 👢 Kicks and ⚠️ Warns filters stay empty.
Activity
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Activity
A log of what happened through SlakBot: bans, kicks, warnings, unbans, AI Moderator actions, tickets and more. You see who did it, to whom, and when. It holds the latest 50, newest first.
Steps
- Open the page: the newest action is at the top.
- Only actions through SlakBot are shown. What a moderator does directly in Discord, such as banning via right-click, is in Discord's audit log.
Unban Requests
Where to find it: Panel → Moderation & safety (Discord) → Unban Requests
Banned members can ask to come back through their own page. They log in with Discord and fill in their age and an explanation. You approve or deny the request in the panel. If you approve it, the ban is lifted and their warnings are cleared. SlakBot tries to send the member a private message, with your invite link if you filled one in, and the member also sees the outcome on the request page.
Steps
- Switch on Enable unban requests.
- Optionally fill in an Invite link (optional), so approved members can rejoin right away.
- Click 💾 Save.
- Share the link shown under Share this link with banned members, for example in your rules.
- Handle requests with ✅ Approve or ❌ Deny. If you deny, you enter a reason that goes to the member.
- Unban requests are off by default.
- If you ban someone with /ban while this is on, they get the link in a private message first (if they accept private messages). Other bans don't send it, so share the link yourself then.
- Each member can have one open request at a time. After a denial, the member has to wait 14 days before asking again.
SlakBot ban list
Where to find it: Discord → /slakbot-banlijst, or in the new panel → Moderation → SlakBot ban list
SlakBot keeps a small list of accounts that did raids, spam, hate or ban evasion on other servers. Only the maker of SlakBot adds people, by hand. Servers can't add anyone. When the list is on, SlakBot also bans such accounts in your server, but never the owner, staff or bots. A place on the list expires after 12 months.
Steps
- You don't have to do anything: the list is on by default and works right away.
- The first time SlakBot bans someone from the list in your server, the owner gets one message about it. It arrives as a DM, or in the Channel for ban, kick and mute if the owner's DMs are closed. If those are closed and there is no Channel for ban, kick and mute, the message can't be delivered; the list still works.
- Don't want it? Click Turn off for this server in that message, or type /slakbot-banlijst off. In the new panel you can also turn off SlakBot ban list on and click Save.
- To check whether it works, type /slakbot-banlijst status. To turn it back on: /slakbot-banlijst on.
- ON by default. If you turn it off, bans the list already made stay. You can lift them yourself under Server Settings → Bans (the reason starts with SlakBot-banlijst #).
- The three /slakbot-banlijst commands and the switch are only for people with the Manage Server permission.
- SlakBot needs the Ban Members permission, and SlakBot's role must be higher than that person's role. Otherwise the list bans no one.
- If you have set a Channel for ban, kick and mute, every ban is posted there. If you lift such a ban yourself, SlakBot won't ban that person in your server again.
- Anyone on the list gets one DM with the number, the category and a link to slakbot.nl/en/banlijst, if their DMs are open. That page explains how to object.
- The list only holds an ID, a category, the date and who decided. In your server, the ban also goes into the moderation history. When someone comes off the list, SlakBot lifts its own bans and all of this is deleted about 30 days later. Bans your server gave itself stay in place.
- If you turn it off and later remove SlakBot from your server, it stays off when you add SlakBot again.
Commands
/slakbot-banlijst status
Shows whether the ban list is active here and how many people it banned here (requires Manage Server).
/slakbot-banlijst off
Turns the ban list off for this server (requires Manage Server).
/slakbot-banlijst on
Turns the ban list back on (requires Manage Server).
Mod commands in Discord
Where to find it: Discord → type / in a channel
With these commands you moderate directly in Discord. Discord decides who sees them, based on the permissions of someone's role. You can restrict them further under Server Settings → Integrations → SlakBot.
Steps
- In Discord, give your moderators the permissions that go with the commands (see below).
- Type / in a channel and pick the command.
- SlakBot can only punish members whose role is lower than its own.
- /clear deletes up to 100 messages. Messages older than 14 days are skipped. If you pick a user, it only searches the last 100 messages in the channel.
- /lockdown stops everyone from writing in the current channel. Roles that are separately allowed to write in that channel, and administrators, can still talk.
- /track is a notes list for your team. SlakBot doesn't watch these members any more closely.
Commands
/ban user:<member> reason:<text>
Bans someone (Ban Members permission). If unban requests are on, they get the link first.
/kick user:<member> reason:<text>
Removes a member from the server (Kick Members permission).
/unban user:<name or ID> reason:<text>
Lifts a ban and clears the warnings. This goes to the mod log (Ban Members permission).
/mute member:<member> minutes:<1-40320> reason:<text>
Gives a timeout from 1 minute up to 28 days (Timeout Members permission).
/unmute member:<member>
Removes a timeout (Timeout Members permission).
/clear amount:<1-100> user:<member>
Deletes messages in this channel, optionally only those of one member (Manage Messages permission).
/slowmode seconds:<0-21600>
Sets slowmode in this channel, up to 6 hours. 0 turns it off (Manage Channels permission).
/lockdown action:Lock | Unlock reason:<text>
Locks or unlocks the channel (Manage Channels permission).
/track add | remove | list user:<member> reason:<text>
Keeps a watchlist for your team. Adding someone goes to the mod log (Manage Messages permission).
